Biografía:

Joan Grimalt is currently working on his Doctoral Thesis about musical meanings in Mahler’s Wunderhorn music (Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona). Conductor and Philologist, he is professor at the Music Theory Department of the Escola Superior de Música de Catalunya, at the Universitat Pompeu Fabra and at the Universitat Internacional de Catalunya.
Grimalt graduated from the Universitat de Barcelona (Hispanic Philology), before moving to Vienna in 1983. There he studied at several Departments of the Musikhochschule, before completing his degree 1991 in Orchestral Conducting. He has been appointed to some Austrian and German middlesized operatic theatres as a conductor and pianist coach. Among them the Viennese Volksoper stands out. Back in his country in 2000, Grimalt has concentrated his efforts on leading Exaudi nos, a vocal-instrumental ensemble, specializing in xvii-century hispanic religious music; on teaching; and on Mahler research from a hermeneutic and interpretive point of view.
